Is it legal to live in commercial property that you are renting? How about if you own it?

question is for state/provincial/local law and/or zoning

search for your answer — it is common in a few cases; example — the manager of a rental storage place might live on the property.

If the premises has anything to do with food preparation, it is very illegal. Zoning restrictions for other situations will vary greatly. In this economy, if it doesn’t compromise the integrity of the structure, I doubt the landlord will force a vacancy. If you own the building, a landlord tenant dispute could be very interesting.

Don’t draw any undue attention to yourself and you should be fine. Good Luck.

That depends on your zoning bylaws. You may be able to have the property rezoned for residential/commercial.
